When I first met Mike way back when, he kept telling me that what he really, really wanted was to figure out this thing called 'existential thought and therapy'. He'd decided that I should be the one to assist him in this. As honoured as I felt to have been invited to do so, I very quickly learned an important thing about Mike: he had already pretty much figured it out himself and, if anything, had kindly decided to help me along my own path of understanding and clarification of this arcane - and yet so obvious - set of ideas. We had great discussions, genuine discussions, that could - and did - go anywhere and everywhere, from Husserl and Heidegger and Sartre to jazz guitar and motorcycle gangs. Mike was a great inspiration to many, many people. He will continue to be so. I wish he'd written down more of his wisdom and knowledge. But then again, it was his "being" that expressed and gave life to that wisdom. Anyone who came into meaningful contact with him will never forget that presence, that twinkle, that magic. Mike... For your being, thanks. Ernesto
